Orangespine Unicornfish

We have seen many fish in the Red Sea since 2011.  We have seen more than 100 different fish and photographed nearly 100 species. Some photos look awesome, some look nice and some are not as great as we thought, due to the sand dust, dark areas or plankton.

Photographing in the Red Sea is a dear hobby to us. We are not professionals with huge cameras and equipment. For our next trip we know of a few new tricks though, how to possibly get more amazing photos.

Here are a few photos from last year:

Orangespine Unicornfish

The Orangespine Unicornfish is a beauty. The black color is like velvet. The orange color is like art work on the fish. The blue eyes are like small diamonds.

A smaller fish, the Sulphur Damsel, is bright yellow. Just like the summer sun.  You recognize it from the black spot, which is a great contrast to the yellow color.  The fish likes to swim around the raspberry corals.

I am pretty sure many people would love the new experience to watch the fish and the corals below the surface of the Red Sea.

I recommend to try snorkeling. Buy your own mask and snorkel and dive into the amazing Red Sea.

One of the funniest fish is the Masked Pufferfish. In the photo below it watches the photographer as well as the Exquisite Butterflyfish couple.

Egypt: The Red Sea: Beautiful Sea Life

There are so many beautiful fish and corals in the Red Sea.

We have photographed in Sharm el-Sheikh, on the Sinai Peninsula, and in Port Ghalib. We think the coral reefs in Port Ghalib are the best. I have though heard that a legendary dive location is Ras Mohammed in Sharm el-Sheikh. Maybe we get to go there one day.

Have a look at these gorgeous fish:

Butterflyfish are among the most typical and colorful reef fish. In most species of Butterflyfish, once couples are formed they remain together for many years or forever.

Angelfish is characterized by the dominance of a male. The male defends a territory up to 1.000 square meters!

Pufferfish get their name from the ability to puff themselves up, when threatened.

The Red Sea is so amazing! The fish, the corals, the colors… they create a beautiful world, which is different every time you go below the surface.

I recommend warmly to rent or buy a mask and a snorkel. When you see the Red Sea sea life, you will fall in love with it.

Even the small fish, like Anthias and Half-and-Half Chromis will surprise you with their elegance and beauty.

One of my favorite corals is the Raspberry coral, which get its name of the fabulous red color.

The sea life of the Red Sea on the coast of Egypt is especially beautiful.

We prefer to travel to Egypt in November, as the temperature is not too mild nor too hot. February-March could be another great time for us from the Nordics. People who are used to hot weather would enjoy the months before November as well as the months after April.

Hurghada: Goats, sheep, luxury breakfast and an Egyptian wedding!

During our visit in Hurhgada a few years back, we got close to the Egyptian life style.

But first, let me tell you of a luxury breakfast:
One morning we decided to try the hotel’s room service and ordered breakfast to the room. It said on the menu that the price is only 10 dollars. We expected bread, cheese, orange juice and coffee.

What a nice surprise it was to open the door in the morning and see three smiling faces bringing us a huge breakfast. I have never seen this much brought to two people. We were speechless.

Luxury breakfast

The trays were filled with food and we also got sparkling wine. Unbelievable and fantastic.

Breakfast in Egypt

We had a big window towards the street and we liked to watch the Egyptian street and life style. A Chanell store, which sold bags, clothes etc a bit cheaper than the original Chanel was opposite to the hotel. We visited the store and bought a few nice hoodies. There was so much to choose from. Leather, perfume, t-shirts etc. The store owner was so nice.

Also the locals liked to visit the store.

It was quite a surprise for a Finn to see sheep and goats walking down the street 🙂 It is interesting to experience the difference in cultures.

Hurghada streets

As we watched the street life, we suddenly focused on the second floor of the Chanell store. The windows were broken, and the apartments looked abandoned. But guess what we saw on the balcony? More sheep and goats 🙂

Our hotel was in the suburbs of Hurghada. Walking down the street we saw just a few restaurants and shops, all close to the hotel. Otherwise it was quite empty.

One evening, while reading our books, we heard loud beautiful music. We opened the window and saw there was a big building to the left of us.

Egyptian wedding arrangements

Someone was preparing a party, we thought. Later we understood it was an Egyptian wedding. We listened to the music and watched the people dance and have a great time. Now this was quite thrilling to experience.

No matter if you like to see the pyramids, meet some camels, enjoy water sports or beach life, have new experiences or go diving, I recommend to visit Egypt. It is such a beautiful country with friendly people.
